Travel Route to Polwaththa Eco Lodges

We are located in a luscious jungle only 19 km from Sri Lanka's bustling hill-capital, Kandy (40 minutes) and about 120 km from the airport/ Colombo. The closest town is called Digana from where we arrange pickup since the last 1km is a steep climb. Therefore please call us on 070 481 0 100 before travelling to us.

Kandy to Polwaththa Eco Lodges

By car:

Being on the Eastern side of Kandy, the road to take from Kandy is the A26 (Kandy-Mahiyangana) which starts from the Kandy lake, crosses the Mahaweli river, goes past the Pallekele international cricket stadium to Digana town and beyond towards Teldeniya. We arrange a pickup in our Jeeps from the 16km post which is just beyond the Gonawela Junction. The driver should call 070 48 101 00 at least 30 minutes before reaching us to arrange the pick up on time.

By bus, Uber, Tuk:

Take bus # 654 to Digana which starts from the Digana /Teldeniya Bus Stop near Kandy market. They leave every 10 minutes and take about 40 minutes to reach Digana town which costs Rs. 100,- p.p. The (free) pick-up in our jeep or tuk-tuk is from the Digana Lions Supermarket . Please Call 070 48 101 00 when leaving Kandy by bus. A tuk or Uber to Digana will cost between 1,500 - 2,000,-.

If you are coming for a Yoga Retreat:

Our free pickup service for Yoga Retreat arrivals is from the Lions Supermarket in Digana at 12.30 and 3pm. You can arrive at a different time but please ensure that you arrive at the Lodge before 4:00pm in time for the retreat welcome circle at 4.30pm. Please note that the retreat package only includes meals after the opening circle but the kitchen is always open for lunch or drink if you arrive early.

Colombo to Polwaththa Eco Lodges

By Train:

To book a train ticket you can use the new government booking page at https://seatreservation.railway.gov.lk/mtktwebslr/ . If this does not work, tickets are available on the day at the station. The train goes directly from Colombo Fort station to Kandy and leaves several times a day. By Bus: 

There are high-speed AC buses that go between Colombo and Kandy every 15-20 minutes which depart from the Kotuwa Bus Stand. Most buses including Colombo - Matara depart from here. Depending on the time of day, the Colombo - Kandy journey can take approximately 4 hours and the price is Rs 900,-.  If you cannot locate the bus please ask for the Kandy bus. It is usally a mini bus. There are cheaper buses that look like regular buses but they stop everywhere and take a long time!

Katunayake (Bandaranaike) Airport (CMB) to Polwaththa Eco Lodges

By Bus:

Bus #1 (Negombo - Kandy) will take you directly from the airport to Kandy. It takes around 4.5 hours and will bring you straight into Kandy city centre. From there please follow the directions from Kandy market to Digana.

By Car / Taxi:

We can arrange an electric car to pick you up from the airport and bring you directly to the Lodge. We are proud to use the first and only electric taxi company operated under LRS Cars. The cost of this is approximately Rs.21,000. (US $65.00,-) Please contact us directly to arrange this.

Ella to Polwaththa Eco Lodges

By Train:( Polwaththa Eco Lodges - Ella is highly recommended!)

The train goes directly from Ella to Kandy and leaves several times a day. By Car / Taxi:

We can arrange a local taxi for approx Rs. 25,000. the journey will take approx 4 hours.

Galle, Ahangama, Matara to Polwaththa Eco Lodges

By Bus:

Generally, from the South of Sri Lanka you will need to travel through Galle to come inland. You have some options of how to get to us from Galle. 

​

There are Highway buses that go directly from Matara and Galle to Colombo (Kadawatha Bus Stand). If taking this route you can take a Colombo - Kandy bus from here. If you are in Ahangama or similar sized town it is best to take a bus to either Matara or Galle and then a Highway bus.

By Train:

The train goes from Galle & Matara to Colombo Fort and leaves several times a day. By Car / Taxi:

We can arrange a pickup / drop anywhere along the South Coast which will cost approx Rs 30-35,000,-

Arugam Bay to Polwaththa Eco Lodges

By Bus:

Arugambay can be one of the most challenging places to reach / leave from since there are no direct buses, but dont worry, we got you!

​

From Arugambay we recommend getting a taxi to Pottuvil and a bus / taxi to either Akkaraipattu or Ampara depending on timings. It is best to find out from the locals since timings are always changing.  There is a direct bus from Akkaraipattu via Digana (our closest town) which leaves at 6.40am There are regular buses including AC buses from Ampara but we suggest to leave Arugam Bay as early possible since most buses run in the morning hours. The entire journey can take up to 7 hours.

From Polwaththa Eco Lodges to Arugam Bay, you can catch a bus from Digana to Akkaraipattu at 10.30 and 11.30am and Ampara buses at 7.15am (intercity), 8.55am, 9.30am, 11am, 2.15pm (intercity), 4pm (intercity).

By Car / Taxi:

We can arrange a pickup / drop from Arugam Bay for approx Rs 32,000 and will take about 5 hours.

Trincomalee, Sigiriya, Dambulla to Polwaththa Eco Lodges

By Bus:

You can take a direct bus from Trincomalee, Dambulla or Habarana to Kandy and follow the directions from Kandy market to Digana. You can also get off before Kandy, in Katugastota and take a bus #631 to Digana. The bus stand you need is the Madawala Road Stop, but make sure to get off at the Katugastota Bus Junction. It will save you about an hour!

By Car / Taxi:

We can arrange a pickup / drop from Sigiriya which is approx Rs 17,000,- and Trincomalee approx Rs 30,000,-. Quickest route is via Wattegama and Madawala.

By Train:

To book a train ticket you can use the new government booking page at https://seatreservation.railway.gov.lk/mtktwebslr/ . If this does not work, tickets are available on the day at the station. The train goes from Trincomalee to Colombo Fort via Gal Oya Junction and leaves several times a day. From Gal Oya Junction you need to jump on a Dambulla or Kandy bus from the Hatharas Kotuwa Stand which is a 15 minute tuk tuk ride from the Gal Oya Junction Station. For trains and times please visit https://www.seat61.com/SriLanka.htm#colombo-to-trincomalee-by-train. Once you arrive in Kandy please follow the directions from Kandy market.

Kalpitiya to Polwaththa Eco Lodges

By Bus:

You can take a bus from Kalpitiya to Puttalam and then another bus to Kurunegala. From Kurunegala you can easily get a bus to Kandy or go to Digana via Katugastota. The entire journey will take up to 7 hours but we suggest taking a taxi from Puttalam to Kalpitiya which will shorten the journey by atleast an hour!

By Car / Taxi:

We can arrange a pickup / drop from Kalpitiya which is approx Rs 27,000,- and will take about 4.5 hours.

Jaffna, Anuradhapura to Polwaththa Eco Lodges

There are multiple options including a combination of train and bus but please contact us!
